Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Wayne State University

Matthew is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and a graduate of Arizona State University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Prior to his graduate training, he was part of the U.S. Department of Education’s McNair Scholar’s Program. In general, his research broadly focuses on life-course criminology, violence, incarceration, and the intersection of mental health/illness and criminal justice policy. Beyond research, he’s currently an instructor for the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program and co-organizer of Just Poetry, an annual event that brings together individuals from diverse perspectives and experiences to explore “justice” through poetry/spoken word.
