Maximilian Kiener

Extraordinary Junior Research Fellow in Philosophy, University of Oxford

I am a philosopher at the University of Oxford and specialise in legal and moral philosophy. My current research focuses on consent and responsibility. I am a Research Fellow on the project Roots of Responsibility.

In my PhD thesis “Voluntariness, Consent, and Justification” (2019) I developed a novel analysis of consent to medical procedures, based on a contractualist perspective. In my current position, I explore parallels between consent and responsibility, examine the metaphysical presuppositions of liability and responsibility, and focus on the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence.
