Mel Bunce

Dr Mel Bunce is a Reader in Journalism, and the founding director of the Humanitarian News Research Network based at City, University of London. Her broad research interests include: international news production and the ethics of representation, with a particular focus on humanitarian journalism and the work of foreign correspondents in Africa.

Dr Bunce is currently the Principal Investigator on a research project: 'Promoting media freedom in a time of crisis' funded by a GCRF/AHRC Urgency Grant, with an international research team based in the UK, Sudan and the Philippines. She is also working on an AHRC-funded project about humanitarian journalism, looking at the funding, production and impact of media reports about humanitarian crises.
