PhD candidate in music, University of Adelaide

Melanie Walters is a flautist and PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney, and completed a Master of Music degree at the University of Adelaide in late twentieth century Australian flute music. Her PhD is on the flute music of German-Australian composer Felix Werder.

She was a fellow at the 2014 Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival, and is half of the new music duo Stereo/Mono. She is a member of the Adelaide Wind Orchestra, and has performed with many other ensembles including the Soundstream Collective, the Earin Festival’s Ensemble Whaam!, the Stables Ensemble, Chronology Arts, and the electro-acoustic ensemble CrashCatalyst.

She was the recipient of the 2012 Naomi Cumming Postgraduate Student Prize from the Musicological Society of Australia (SA Chapter) and the 2013 Elder Conservatorium Postgraduate Prize for Research Excellence, and was a University of Adelaide finalist in the 2013 Three Minute Thesis competition.
