Merritt Drewery

Dr. Drewery received her BS and MS from Texas A&M University in Animal Science then her Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from Louisiana State University. After a two-year hiatus from academia, she joined Texas State University in Fall 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences.

Dr. Drewery’s research program focuses on the identification of novel feedstuffs to enhance livestock production. She is currently working on insects and insect products as feed for beef cattle. She is also interested in educational interventions to develop sense of belonging and science identity of students in STEM, with a focus on Latina and Black females.

Dr. Drewery is a proud first-generation college student and credits her academic mentors with much of her professional success. As such, she is committed to helping students succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. She teaches Animal Science, Leadership, Research Methods, and Grant Development courses.

Outside of the classroom and laboratory, you can find Dr. Drewery hiking or paddle boarding the San Marcos river with her pups, Myla and Maggie, and partner, Edward.
