Dr Michael Odei works at the intersection of global development and business sustainability. For 10 years, in industry and academia, he has applied a multi-disciplinary lens to business sustainability and global development approaches to identify the tools, models, metrics and indicators that create the greatest value for businesses, society and the environment.
Dr Odei’s research specialism covers Global Development, Circular Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Digital Futures. He has produced a book, book chapters, journal articles, conference papers, industry reports as well as blogs on topics across these research themes. Dr Odei has published in world-class journals including Business and the Environment (IF 5.483), Energy Economics (IF 5.203); Journal of Business Ethics (IF 4.141), Environmental Science & Policy (IF 5.581), and Journal of Rural Studies (IF 3.544).
Prior to joining Charles Darwin University, Dr Odei worked on Transparency International (TI)’s Mining for Sustainable Development (M4SD) Programme as a Research and Policy Coordinator. He assisted five TI countries to undertake their corruption risk assessment project under the M4SD programme in their respective countries. He translated the programme’s research outcomes into reports, discussion papers and blogs, which are currently published on the Transparency International Australia website and the World Bank GOXI page. Also, Dr Odei has served as a course Facilitator and Expert for the UNDP Online Open Course (MOOC) on gender and mining governance. He also served as a Forum Lead Moderator on the Intergovernmental Forum (IGF) ESIA online dialogue that was hosted on GOXI.
Dr Odei is an award-winning author and a Lecturer at the Asia Pacific College of Business and Law, Charles Darwin University. He holds a doctoral degree (PhD) from the University of Southern Queensland (Australia) and a Honoor Code Certificate of Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Pennsylvania (USA). Dr Odei currently serves as a Topic Editor for the Sustainability Journal.
