Visiting Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University

I am a faculty member in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Previously, I spent 26 years as a faculty member in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health. My research has focused in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. Tying this work together is the study of corporate influences on health--especially advertising and marketing--and strategies to counteract them. More recently, my research has focused on racial inequities in health and the role of structural racism in causing these inequities. My teaching has primarily been in the areas of public health advocacy, social and behavioral sciences in public health, social marketing, and health communication. One of my primary service activities has been serving as an expert witness in litigation against the tobacco, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
