Energy Efficiency Researcher, University of Wollongong

Michael has been working to develop sustainable engineering research and development solutions at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, UOW since 2014, with a focus on action research into residential energy efficiency. He led the implementation of an IoT monitoring system to establish living laboratories in two schools and an aged care facility. He led a refrigerator energy performance measurement and verification study for NSW Office of Environment and Heritage’s Appliance Replacement Offer, and led the retrofit assessment team on a $2.3M Low Income Energy Efficiency Program project to recommend and evaluate 200 household-tailored retrofits. His most satisfying project was to develop a custom control system for a 75 kW wind turbine and 350 kWh battery to offset $80k/y of diesel power generation for a remote Aboriginal school community in the NT.
