Michalis Vousdoukas

My research interests cover different aspects of Coastal Oceanography/Engineering, focusing mostly on nearshore morphodynamic processes i.e. sediment dynamics, beach morphodynamics, swash zone processes and climate change impacts.

Since my PhD thesis I have been combining field measurements with numerical modeling, while during 2011-2013 I gained extensive experience in physical modeling. During my career I have been applying and developing optical techniques for my research needs (laser range scanning, image processing, stereo-photogrammetry, etc) and I have developed the Coastal Video Monitoring platform Orasis.

Currently I am working for the European Commission at the European Joint Research Centre, developing tools and methodologies allowing to assess climate change impacts along the European and global coastlines. Our group is carrying out multidisciplinary work, which covers the whole spectrum from hazard, to impact and adaptation, including large-scale numerical modeling of waves and ocean circulation, large exposure datasets and impact assessment methodologies.

Since 2014 I have been appointed Ass. Professor position in the University of the Aegean, Greece (non-paid leave) and I am regularly invited speaker at expert meetings of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the European Commission.
