Michelle Hewitt is currently a PhD candidate at UBC-Okanagan, in Interdisciplinary Studies, in the Community Engagement, Social Change and Equity theme. With a focus on Disability Studies, Michelle researches care for younger disabled adults who have no other option than to live in long-term care facilities.

Michelle is a disabled woman, with an aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis . Prior to being disabled, Michelle was a school principal. Her education includes BMus(Hons) from the University of Birmingham, MA in Educational Management from Keele University and an MSc in Computer Enhanced Mathematics Education from Napier University.

Michelle is also a disability advocate. Her volunteering includes the national government relations committee of the MS Society of Canada, a board member of Disability Alliance BC and board chair of Disability Without Poverty.
