Michelle Nayahamui Rooney

My PhD research examined urban life in Papua New Guinea through an interdisciplinary approach including anthropology, human geography, development. It is an ethnography of group of migrants living in Port Moresby. My current research projects remain focused the nexus between migration and urban life in PNG. This includes a new research project in Lae, PNG's second largest urban centre, exploring family strategies and services for dealing with Family and Sexual Violence. I have a Master of Arts in Development Economics from the University of Sussex (Distinction) and a Bachelor of Economics from the Australian National University (Honours).Prior to becoming a researcher, I worked as a Papua New Guinean national officer in the development sector in Papua New Guinea.
