Mikael is a DPhil-Student in International Relations at New College at the University of Oxford . He has previously completed an MPhil at the Oxford's Pembroke College, an MSc at LSE, and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oslo. His primary focus is on the significance of ideology to political violence and civil war. He is currently writing his thesis on the origins of Islamist insurgencies and whether there are common patterns which can explain variance in the local momentum of Islamist rebel groups
