Najmeh Khalili-Mahani

I am an early-career multidisciplinary researcher and the director of Media-Health/Game-Clinic laboratory at Concordia University, PERFORM Centre.

My research asks whether cinematic and narrative artwork can be incorporated into a digital healthcare framework, in order to provide non-pharmacological therapies for stress-related mental health risks, such as depression and anxiety disorders; or provide engaging assistive care technologies for older adults.

My current research is inspired by three stream of previous work:

1) Film-Studies: I have extensively studied the cultural affordances of popular cinema in empowering Iranian women;

2) Neuroscience: I have used neuroimaging as a method to explore the cartography of how stress and psychoactive drugs that are used for pain and depression, affect the brain;

3) Computer/Biomedical Engineering: Developing scalable and validated data analytical solutions for studying the interactions between body and behavior.
