Professor of Government, University College Cork

Dr Neil Collins is Professor of Government at the National University of Ireland (Cork), and formerly Dean of Commerce. He is a political scientist and public management expert. He has held academic posts in universities in Ireland, Britain (University of Birmingham, University of Liverpool) and America (City University New York). He is a past president of the Political Studies Association of Ireland and a former Centennial Scholar at the American Political Science Association in Washington DC. Neil is a member of the Irish board of the Fulbright Commission and was recently elected to the prestigious Academy of the Social Sciences (UK).
His research interest is in public policy and management in the European Union and the People’s Republic of China. He has written extensively on management, regulation and governance in both the Chinese and European contexts. Among the international journals in which his work has been published are Parliamentary Affairs, Political Studies and the Journal of European Public Policy. He is the author of several books, including Understanding Chinese Politics, Manchester University Press (2012).
