Associate Professor, Curtin University

Nigar is an educator and an industry-focused researcher with over ten years of experience in tertiary education and research. Her research interests are in the areas of auditing, corporate governance, gender diversity, corporate social responsibility and financial reporting. Nigar consistently publishes research articles, including those from her PhD, in ABDC A* and A-ranked journals including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, European Accounting Review, Accounting and Finance, International Journal of Auditing and the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics. Nigar’s research also generates impact as she consistently publishes media articles, provides expert commentary in TV and other News Outlets from her research. Prior to joining academia full-time, Nigar was an assurance auditor at a chartered accounting firm in Perth. As part of her industry experience, Nigar worked with a range of clients ranging from listed firms to not-for-profit organizations where she was involved not only in the assurance of financial reports as an external auditor but also as an internal auditor. Nigar is a Chartered Accountant, has successfully supervised eight PhD and six Honours students to completion, and is currently supervising three PhD students. Nigar currently serves on editorial boards of three prominent accounting journals: i) Accounting & Finance; ii) Accounting Research Journal (as a Co-Editor) and iii) Meditary Accountancy Journal. She is also an elected member of the Curtin University Academic Board.

Nigar has received a number of awards for her research and teaching at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Nigar was awarded the Faculty of Business and Law ‘Researcher of the Year 2019’ and the Curtin Business School ‘New Researcher of the Year 2014’ for her research publications, higher degrees by research supervision and grant income.
