PhD Candidate, De Montfort University

Nigel Hancock is a part-time PhD research student with DMU’s International Centre for Sports History and Culture. After a career in the Home Office and Ministry of Justice during which he both commissioned research and late on resumed studying, Nigel decided to combine his academic and sporting interests. His research subject at DMU is Cricket Crowds Since 1945: A Social and Cultural History. He has previous degrees in history and politics, Soviet government and politics, and applied criminology and management.

A native of Leicester whose sports teams he follows avidly, Nigel is Chairman of The Cricket Society and runs The Cricket Society and MCC Book of the Year Award.
