Brief Biography (English)
Oluwawemimo Adebowale is currently an Associate Professor of Veterinary Public Health in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria. She obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Masters in Veterinary Public Health from the University of Ibadan (UI). In 2011, she was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship to the United Kingdom and completed her Ph.D. from the Royal Veterinary College at the University of London in 2015. During her doctoral training in the United Kingdom, she was part of a research team that worked on the characterization of UK open farms in relation to practices associated with the risk of visitors being exposed to Escherichia coli O157 and other zoonotic pathogens (Salmonella and Campylobacter) - Also, she has worked on projects with a special interest in the development of innovative diagnostic technologies for bacteria at the molecular level using antisense strategies, and a novel delivery agent (PHMB) to enhance intracellular oligomer delivery and free fixation fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Presently, she is interested in biorisk assessments and the application of epidemiological and molecular research tools to study selected bacterial and viral infectious diseases of interest in food animals. She is also involved in understanding “drivers for the indiscriminate use of antimicrobials and antimicrobial resistance in food- animal production systems and the environment in Nigeria using the "one health approach". Adebowale has several publications in both local and international journals and has provided presentations at local and international conferences.
