Associate Professor of Political Science, Clark University

Professor Szekely’s research focuses on the foreign and domestic policies of nonstate armed groups in the Middle East, including Hamas, Hizbullah, the PLO, the PKK, ISIS, and others. Her work is based on field research conducted across the Middle East and elsewhere. She is the author of The Politics of Militant Group Survival in the Middle East (2016), and the co-author of Insurgent Women: Female Combatants in Civil Wars (2019). At Clark, she teaches courses on comparative politics with a focus on the Middle East.
