Lecturer in Indigenous Education and Indigenous art, PhD Candidate, Victoria University

Paola Balla is a Wemba-Wemba & Gunditjmara woman, visual artist, curator, writer, lecturer based in Footscray. She is a current Lisa Bellear Indigenous Research Scholar Ph.D. Candidate at Moondani Balluk Indigenous Academic Unit, VU, focussed on Aboriginal women's art & practices of resistance through practice-led research. In December 2019, Paola held her Ph.D. exhibition, Disrupting Artistic Terra Nullius; the ways that Aboriginal Women Speak Blak & Back to the colony & patriarchy at FCAC. Currently, Paola is a member of the Indigenous Advisory Group at FCAC & the Blak Brow Collective who edited the Blak Brow (2018) for The Lifted Brow. Her writing appears in, Etchings Indigenous, Oceania, The Lifted Brow, ArtLink, Writers Victoria, Freize (UK), SBS, NITV, Metro Magazine, Writing & Concepts (Art + Australia), Cordite Poetry, & is a member of the Blak Brow Collective who edited the Blak Brow (2018) for The Lifted Brow. Paola is a graduate from the Nyerna Studies BA Ed, Victoria University & holds a Post Grad Dip & Masters in Community Cultural Development from the Victorian College of the Arts. Currently, Paola is a member of the Indigenous Advisory Group at FCAC.
