Professor Emeritusin the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand

Peter Cooper was Professor, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of the Witwatersrand & Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and was Academic Head of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health from 2003 to 2016.

He has held a number of executive positions in South African paediatric and neonatal organizations and served as President of the Union of National African Paediatric Societies & Associations for a three-year term.

He was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Paediatric and served as its representative on the Board of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health under the auspices of the World Health Organization.

He received the Convocation Distinguished Teacher’s Award and the Philip V. Tobias Medal for Distinguished Teaching in 1995. He is author or co-author of over 80 publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and author of several chapters in books, mainly related to neonatology and nutrition.

He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand.
