Ph.D. at UCT, Department of Mathematics, 1995.
My formal training was in abstract mathematics. Responding to the need to train students in applied mathematics, I worked myself into mathematical modeling of infectious diseases' population dynamics. My main foci has been on TB and malaria. I have worked in collaborative projects with SA MRC, University of California, and extensively in the joint South Africa - Japan project iDEWS (Infectious Diseases Early Warning Systems).
