Peter Newton

Peter W. Newton is an Emeritus Professor at Swinburne University of Technology where he has led ARC Discovery Projects on Sustainable Consumption and Green Economy Transition as well as AHURI and CRC SI projects on urban (greyfields) regeneration. From 2011-2019 he was Program Leader in the CRC for Low Carbon Living where he researched and published on decarbonising cities and households; and from 2013-2019 was a member of the Board of AURIN (Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network) . His most recent books are: Urban Consumption (CSIRO Publishing 2011), Transitions. Pathways Towards More Sustainable Urban Development in Australia (Springer 2008), Technology, Design and Process Innovation in the Built Environment (Taylor & Francis 2009) , Resilient Sustainable Cities (Routledge 2014), Decarbonising the Built Environment (Palgrave Macmillan 2019), Greening the Greyfields: New Models for Regenerating the Middle Suburbs of Low Density Cities (Palgrave Macmillan 2022) and Migration and Urban Transitions in Australia (Palgrave Macmillan 2022). Prior to joining Swinburne in 2007 he was a Chief Research Scientist in CSIRO. In 2014 he was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
