Dr. Peter S. Ross is an ocean pollution scientist, and has published over 160 scientific articles and book chapters on the fate and effects of a variety of contaminants in the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. Dr. Ross is currently an Adjunct Professor at UBC Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, and at the UVic School for Environmental Studies. Between 2014 and 2020, he served as the Vice-President of Research at Ocean Wise, and founding Director of the Ocean Pollution Research Program. Dr. Ross and his team at Ocean Wise launched PollutionTracker (http://pollutiontracker.org/), the first comprehensive monitoring program for pollutants of concern in coastal British Columbia; Ocean Watch (https://research.ocean.org/program/ocean-watch), a coast-wide ocean health report card; and the Plastics Lab, a dedicated high resolution facility working with industry, government agencies and academia on microplastic pollution.
