Professor David Bishop is the inaugural Research Leader (Sport) at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL) at Victoria University, Melbourne Australia.

He has more than 130 published papers, 160 abstracts, and five book chapters in the area of human movement and sport science.

Professor Bishop is also the past president and current director (Sport Science) of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), and assistant editor of The Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport.

His research areas are sport science (performance), exercise biochemistry (ion regulation), exercise physiology (adaptations to training), muscle physiology (mitochondrial respiration), molecular biology (gene regulation with exercise) and neurophysiology (fatigue).
