Associate Curator Arts of Africa, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Queen's University, Ontario

Dr Qanita Lilla is a South African curator, researcher and writer. She is Associate Curator, Arts of Africa at Agnes Etherington Art Centre and Associate Professor in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies, Queens University. At Agnes, Qanita intercedes on behalf of the Lang Collection of African Art, one of the largest African collections of its kind in Canada. Her research and teaching interests include: the visual construction of Africa in museum collections, the radical potential of museums and curatorial practice, curating excluded narratives and epistemologies, the life and after-life of objects in collections, depictions of traumatic histories, rematriation/repatriation debates and digital curating.
Qanita’s first Canadian exhibition is 'With Opened Mouths' and the associated podcast. She has published in various peer-reviewed publications and has also contributed book chapters to anthologies.
