I specialise in modern South African and Australian history, especially relating to migration and identity. I am currently researching naturalisation in South Africa and Australia, and how this connects to modern global systems of migration control. An article on the implementation of border controls, and the important role of border officials, appeared in the Journal of Migration History in 2018.
