Senior Lecturer Taxation, Auckland University of Technology

Ranjana’s experience in academia spans over three decades and includes research and tax consulting besides teaching on various aspects of taxation law and policy and accounting papers. She joined AUT in 1999 and has been teaching range of taxation courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students at AUT. She has also examined and supervised Masters and BBus (Hons) students for tax dissertations. Prior to this, for more than 15 years she was a Senior Lecturer in Commerce at Delhi University in India where she taught Taxation, Accounting and Management subjects. Since 2007 she has written five chapters (Income, Income of Individuals, Other Income, Deductions and Companies) in New Zealand Taxation, Principles, Cases and Questions published by Thomson Reuters. She also writes a chapter ‘Income from personal services: Employees and the self-employed’ in Foundations of New Zealand Taxation Law published by Wolters Kluwer. Ranjana reviews papers for various tax journals and is also a regular reviewer for Managing Your Business, Taxation and Legal Compliance published by Financial and Business Advisor. She is regularly invited to present her research at national and international conferences. She is also approached by various local and international radio, television and newspaper media outlets for comments on various tax issues.
