Rebecca L. Spang

Author of _The Invention of the Restaurant: Paris and Modern Gastronomic Culture_ (Harvard University Press, 2000; new edition with foreword by Adam Gopnik, 2020; translated into Japanese, Portuguese, Turkish, and Modern Greek) and of _Stuff and Money in the Time of the French Revolution> (Harvard University Press, 2015). Both books were awarded the Gottschalk Prize for the best book in eighteenth-century studies, making me the only two-time winner of that prize. I also write on occasion for the _Financial Times_ and the TLS.

Appointed at Indiana University since 2006, I was previously on the faculty at UCL (University College London) where I held the post of Reader, European History. Before going to UCL, I had a three-year appointment in the Michigan Society of Fellows.
