Senior Lecturer in Additional Learning Needs, Cardiff Metropolitan University

I am a senior lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University specialising in Additional Learning Needs (ALN). I teach on a number of undergraduate courses and on the MA ALN. Before joining the School of Education and Social Policy, I was a senior lecturer at the University of South Wales, teaching on the BA (Hons) Early Years, Education and Practice and BA (Hons) Education, Inclusive Education and Early Years programmes. Prior to that I taught Welsh as a second language in secondary schools in Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Between teaching posts I worked as a research assistant, completing my PhD.

I became interested in supporting children with ALN while working as a secondary teacher and undertook a PGDip in SEN specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). I deliver British Dyslexia Association accredited courses at Cardiff Metropolitan on the MA ALN. My research interests include children and young people's educational transitions from entering school to post-16 education (in particular those with ALN); quiet, shy and anxious children; and experiences of learners with SpLD.
