PhD Candidate, School of Population Health, UNSW Sydney

Hey there! I’m Rhys, a researcher completing a PhD at the School of Population Health, UNSW.

My PhD is all about designing digital health interventions and serious games to support older people in prison. One of the most important things to me about the research I do is making sure that the voices and experiences of the people I work with are always in the room (and always informing the way I do research).

Before starting my PhD, I completed a Master of Public Health at UNSW focusing on mental health, addiction and stigma. I also used to work in consulting at Deloitte designing and delivering digital, data and policy programs across public sector and healthcare.

What I like to think ties my life together is a love of storytelling. I’m obsessed with reading stories, watching stories, writing stories, listening to people tell stories… usually ones that are about change and recovery. Or ones about supporting people in marginalised and disadvantaged situations. Especially stories that can provide hope by showing an evidence-based and thoughtful path to a better future.
