Richard Kenchington

Professor, Marine Environment and Resource Management, University of Wollongong

A marine ecologist, a foundation member of the planning and research staff of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in 1977, director of the planning team for the initial process of declaration and zoning of the Marine Park and nomination of the Great Barrier Reef as a World Heritage Area. Retired in 1999 as Executive Director of the Authority. Secretary of the Resource Assessment Commission Coastal Zone Inquiry 1990-1993. Long engagement as invited expert and consultant in international policy development and capacity building for sustainable management of coastal and marine biodiversity and resources.

Associated with ANCORS since RAC Coastal Zone Inquiry. Honorary Visiting Professor 2000-2010. Professorial Fellow and Integration Theme Leader of a trans-disciplinary CSIRO Coastal Cluster project concerning barriers to the application of science in coastal zone management for climate change.
