Honorary Professor, Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, Aberystwyth University

Richard is Honorary Professor in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University. Prior to that, he spent four decades at Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales in Cardiff.

Richard was Keeper of Natural Sciences when he retired from the Museum in 2020. Before that, he held various roles there, including Keeper of Geology, Acting Director (Collections and Research) and latterly Honorary Research Fellow.

He studied for his BSc in geology and Earth Science at University College Wales, Aberystwyth and obtained his PhD from Keele University.

His research interests include Neolithic archaeology and the provenancing of archaeological materials, including the bluestones at Stonehenge.

Richard is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.
