Lecturer in Cultural Sociology, Birmingham City University

Roaa Ali is a Lecturer in Cultural Sociology at Birmingham City University and Honorary Research Associate at the University of Manchester (Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity). Her research explores the access and representation of Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse people in culture, how culture gets produced, how race is made in the process of cultural production, and the role of institutions in reproducing inequality. Roaa completed her PhD at the University of Birmingham and her thesis investigates the representation of Arab Americans in post 9/11 American cultural scene and theatre, which is the subject of a forthcoming monograph. Some of her publications appear in: Cultural Sociology, Cultural Trends, Contemporary Theatre Review, Research in Drama Education (RiDE), Journal of Arts and Community, and the Methuen Drama Companion to Theatre and Interculturalism.
