ROGER GOCKINGis an emeritus professor at Mercy College in Westchester County, New York. He has a Ph.D. in history from Stanford University, and taught history with a specialization in African history. His main area of interest is colonial West African history, with most of his work being on Ghana. He is the author of two works on Ghana: Facing Two Ways: Ghana's Coastal Communities under Colonial Rule [1999], and The History of Ghana [2005], in the Greenwood Histories of Modern Nations Series.
