My main research interests focus on policy, leadership, governance and management of higher education; the consequences of university league tables; doctoral students; the changing purposes and roles of universities; public service organizations, leadership and change agency and equality in educational settings. This work draws on organisational theory, policy analysis, feminist research, new managerialist theory and comparative social science.

I have recently completed an ESRC funded project ‘Developing Organization Leaders as Change Agents in the Public Services’ (ESRC Ref No R000231136) with colleagues at Cardiff Business School (Mike Wallace, Mike Reed and Jon Morris).
