Rupert Payne trained in Edinburgh in both Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and General Practice, and subsequently held a NIHR Clinical Lecturer position in Cambridge. He took up his current post in Bristol as a Consultant Senior Lecturer in Primary Health Care in February 2016.
His interests include pharmacoepidemiology, electronic health records and data linkage, and cardiovascular risk management. He is particularly interested in polypharmacy, including the factors which drive it and adverse outcomes associated with it, and in the development and evaluation of measures of prescribing quality. He is additionally involved in a number of pieces of work on multimorbidity.
Rupert is consultant editor of Prescriber journal, associate editor for BMC Family Practice, and works with the CQC and NICE. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and the British Pharmacological Society.
