Associate Professor, Sport and Physical Activity, University of Manitoba

As a historian interested in the socio-cultural study of sport and physical activity, I have two primary lines of research. The first of these includes examinations – primarily historical – of global sporting events as sites of resistance and protest. I am currently writing a history of the 1963 Games of the New Emerging Forces, an attempt by the Third World to start their own Olympic-style movement. I also study hockey and spectator culture an am completing a book on the experience of being a spectator at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens in the 1930s.
