PhD, Philosophy of Language, Faculty of Applied Science, Emeritus, University of British Columbia

Although my home faculty is Applied Science, my specialty is linguistic pragmatics, discourse analysis, classical/contemporary rhetoric and the art of persuasion.

Students, whether in engineering, forestry or architecture, need to persuade others that their research is valuable; that it fills a "knowledge deficit". Understanding the use of rhetorical strategies can lead to successful ventures for all students, regardless of the discipline.
