Ryan is an Associate Professor at the Leicester School of Pharmacy whose research focuses on the optimal use of antimicrobial (e.g. antibiotics) medicines. He is also drives public engagement initiatives to raise awareness of drug-resistant infections. Ryan worked as a consultant antimicrobial pharmacist in the NHS, specialising in the treatment of drug-resistant and complex infections and optimising the use of antimicrobial medicines across healthcare settings.
Ryan holds a PhD from Liverpool John Moores University, UK, researching how clay minerals can be utilised to deliver antibacterial molecules for wound care.
