Innovation Commercialization Manager, University of Cape Town

Saberi Marais (MSc (Dist), MBA) is an Innovation Commercialization Manager for the University of Cape Town. He is part of the Research Contracts and Innovations team. In his role he commercialises the University’s research outputs to realise their intended impact in society and returns for the University. Saberi has extensive experience in invention valorisation, project and business funding, deal structuring, investment funds management through the different stages of technology development and Venture Capital. Saberi is a venture builder and mentors deep tech inventors and start-ups to achieve their goals. Saberi was the Head of the Seed Fund Programme at the Technology Innovation Agency; where he oversaw the implementation, management and pipeline growth of the early-stage technology-enabling Fund. He was also and Acting Executive for the Agency’s Innovation Enabling Division and a Regional Business Development Manager. He also worked at Innovus, Stellenbosch University and the SA Medical Research Council as a Technology transfer Manager in both institutions.
