Dr Sally Gray is a Visiting Scholar in the School of Art History and Art Education at UNSW Art & Design (Formerly COFA UNSW) (2013-15). She was formerly a full time ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2010-12) based at COFA, during which she was Chief Investigator on a three-year study of Australian fashion and style in the 1970s-80s (DP1093380). Previous to that she wrote, coordinated and taught COFA art and design courses, as a sessional lecturer (2002-2009) including the popular courses 'Fashion History and Theory' and 'Fashion and the Modern City' (2005-2009). As an independent scholar, curator, artist and cultural broker Dr Sally Gray has worked on numerous art and design projects. She has curated numerous exhibitions – large and small, public and private, regional and metropolitan – in Australia and overseas. Recent curatorial projects include David McDiarmid: When This You See Remember Me at the National Gallery of Victoria (May-August 2014) and David McDiarmid: A Short History of Facial Hair at the Fashion Space Gallery at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London (Sept-Oct 2011). Her digital film installation The Urns Project was shown at Wollongong City Gallery (Feb-April 2013). As an arts and cultural broker she has completed projects such as a Cultural Benefits Study for the State Library of Victoria (2013-14) and an evaluative review of Arts Queensland's art+place public art program (2009-2010). Dr Gray is executor of the estate of the Australian queer artist, David McDiarmid, and is curator of McDiarmid’s visual legacy.
