Sam is currently working on three ARC projects investigating national and global education policy, new accountabilities in schooling and the aspirations of young people in high-poverty regions.
He is co-convenor of the Higher and Professional Education special interest group in the Australian Association for Research in Education and is an associate editor of the journal Critical Studies in Education. He has recently published articles in the Journal of Education Policy, British Education Research Journal, Comparative Education and Educational Philosophy and Theory.
He also has a forthcoming book (with Bob Lingard, Goli Rezai-Rashti and Wayne Martino) titled Globalizing educational accountabilities: Testing regimes and rescaling governance (Routledge).
