Researcher of the Atmospheric Composition group, in charge of the WMO Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System Regional Center for Northern Africa, Middle East and Europe,, Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS)

Dr Sara Basart (female) is a researcher in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). Her main research background covers mineral dust modelling, air quality and their effects upon weather, ecosystems, air quality and health but also to other socio-economic sectors such as solar energy or aviation. She is the scientist in charge of the WMO Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS) Regional Center for Northern Africa, Middle East and Europe, and the Barcelona Dust Forecast Center, hosted in BSC. She also participates in international projects and contracts. She is leading EU projects related to the development of dust services as the EU ERA4CS project DustClim and the COST Action inDust and it is scientific advisor of several United Nations programmes and secretariats (as the Coalition for combating Sand and Dust Storm, and the ESCAP/APDIM and UNEP agencies). She has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and book chapters. Furthermore, she has participated in capacity building and transfer of knowledge activities associated with private contracts, European Commission and United Nations programmes.
