Sara Lewis

Sara Lewis, Professor of Biology at Tufts University, tries hard to stay susceptible to wonder. Over the past thirty years, her scientific research into the luminous lives of fireflies has revealed intimate secrets of their courtship and sex lives. Author of 90+ scientific papers, Lewis has also given a TED talk and written about firefly conservation and evolution for Scientific American, Undark, CNN, and The Guardian. Her book Silent Sparks: The Wondrous World of Fireflies (Princeton 2016) offers a richly illustrated and passionate look at the science behind the spectacle, and a way to reconnect with the magic of the natural world.
