Associate Professor of Science and Environmental Education, University of Canterbury

Currently Associate Professor of Science and Environmental Education at the Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha University of Canterbury, I have worked for over twenty years in primary, secondary, higher education, and informal learning environments in the United States, Latin America (Mexico and Guatemala), and Aotearoa New Zealand. My expertise is in social justice and equity in education, science teaching and learning, sustainability/environmental education, participatory action research, and teacher and youth agency/empowerment. At UC, I teach courses in environmental/sustainability education, science education, and teacher education. My current research focuses on bicultural place-based science education, uplifting students' mana/dignity in STEM education, critical hope in climate change education, food justice, teacher agency, and science education in multilingual classrooms.
