Sara Tolbert

Professor of Science and Environmental Education, University of Canterbury

Currently Professor of Science and Environmental Education at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha University of Canterbury, I have worked for over twenty years in primary, secondary, and adult education in the United States, Latin America (Mexico and Guatemala), and Aotearoa New Zealand. My expertise is in science teaching and learning, sustainability/environmental education, and justice, agency and social change in education. At UC, I teach courses in science education, environmental/sustainability education, and teacher education. My current research focuses on reimagining science education in the Anthropocene, transitions to destreaming mathematics education, community food resilience, teacher agency, and science education in multilingual classrooms.
