Selen Göbelez Dumas

I graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. I did my Master's studies at the Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History at Boğaziçi University, where I worked as Research Assistant. The title of my MA Thesis was "The History of Social Services in Republican Turkey: Social Change, Professionalism and Politics".
I worked many years as editor and translator in the area of political philosophy and social sciences. Currently I am working on my PhD Thesis about "Medicalization of Childbirth in Turkey" at the Sociology Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. I elaborate the childbirth policies in Turkey in 2000's and construction of subjectivities of women in terms of gender relations and gender performances in birth. Along with my academic search to improve childbirth conditions, I am a doula-in-training, which allows me to dwell further into the childbirth experiences.
