I study how information evolves. I studied computer science and physics in school, but I've always been fascinated by evolutionary theory and its extensions beyond biology, such as social and technological evolution. At the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE) -where I am a tenured scientist for the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)- I am attempting to establish solid links between natural and artificial evolution.

A solid evolutionary framework is required not just to understand the emergence of complexity in natural and artificial systems, but also to address today's most pressing challenges. To address them, we combine networks, evolution, and complex systems.

I hold a PhD (2006) in applied physics from Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). In my pre-academic life, I worked as a video game programmer at Ubi Soft (1999-2004), and a software engineer for the Catalan newspaper "El Periodico de Catalunya" (1996-1999).
