Shahrashoub Razavi

Shahra Razavi is the Chief of the Research & Data Section at UN Women, where she is research director of UN Women’s flagship report, Progress of the World’s Women. She specializes in the gender dimensions of development, with a particular focus on work, social policy and care. Her publications include Seen, Heard and Counted: Rethinking Care in a Development Context (special issue of Development and Change, 2011), Underpaid and Overworked: A Cross-national Perspective on Care Workers (with Silke Staab, special issue of International Labour Review, 2010), and The Gendered Impacts of Liberalization: Towards ‘Embedded Liberalism’? (2009, Routledge, New York). Prior to joining UN Women Shahra was a senior researcher at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), and Visiting Professor at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies at Universities of Bern and Fribourg. Shahra received her Bachelors in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and her Masters and Doctorate (D.Phil.) in Agricultural Economics from Oxford University.
