I am an assistant professor of management at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin (e-mail: shefali.patil@mccombs.utexas.edu). My research examines how employees cope with perceived public misunderstandings of their jobs, public scrutiny/criticism, monitoring, and other evaluative challenges—and the ultimate effects it has on their decision making, proactivity, and job effectiveness. I am currently studying these questions in the law enforcement, firefighting, and healthcare contexts.
I earned my B.S. in Management & Organizations, summa cum laude and Beta Gamma Sigma honors, from the Stern School of Business at New York University, and my M.S. and Ph.D. in Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
