Honorary Research Fellow, University of Sheffield

Shirin's research has explored pedagogical engagement with the function of literature, specifically poetry, linked to cross-cultural narratives of exile, displacement, 'statelessness', and mental health. She has designed and developed a range of projects in collaboration with 'socially marginalised individuals' from different ethnic backgrounds, charities, community partners, libraries, and art groups.

Shirin is also a trustee for Sheffield Flourish (Recovery Enterprises)--an award-winning mental health initiative that works in partnership with volunteer sector, NHS, and the University of Sheffield. She is currently leading creative courses for people with mental health difficulties and planning a module on migration in the School of English (University of Sheffield).
